ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ex-thoroughbred racehorse trainer, Susan Bump broke and trained horses for over 30 years. She had to quit when she realized that she was part of the problem rather than part of the solution.
Susan eventually became a human and animal rights activist. A member of San Diego Animal Defense team, Susan successfully protested inhumane pet stores in San Diego, California, leading to criminal charges against the owners.
She was arrested for trespassing in the small town of Valley Center, Ca. when she gave water to dying animals on a hot summer day. Her story made front page news in the local paper. So many animal lovers supported her in court that the newspapers called them her 'entourage.'
She currently lives with her 8 wonderful dogs on a 47,000 acre, Arizona ranch in a 100-year-old adobe house in the magical town of Arivaca.
Susan Bump was the daughter of an alcoholic and bipolar mother, and an alcoholic abusive father, and consequently, she grew up hating life.
After realizing that she was indeed special, and worthy, her life has become fantastic. This is her Wild Ride.

Even though she didn't think she had any self-esteem, she managed to survive a lot of horrendous times and still come out on top in the end! She is a very strong person to go through all she did in her life! I come from her hometown, don't remember her, but do remember the family. She lived her dream to work with horses, and it was a tough life! She doesn't sugar-coat any of the bad things she did. I felt like I was right there with her, going through all the terrible things she went through. She is a great story teller! I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did!Product details

Wow! What a good book! So many mixed emotions. Caught my attention in the first paragraph and I could not put it down. Sad what Susan went through growing up. And amazing what she's accomplished on her own. I would highly recommend this book.
Having been good friends with Susan in the younger years, I had no idea what she was dealing with at home. This is a wonderful book for anyone who loves animals and in particular, horses and dogs, with a curiosity for the horse racing industry. Susan carries her love of animals that she has had since I knew her throughout this book. Anyone who has dealt with a dysfunctional family would certainly find this book very inspiring as they share Susan's tragedies and successes. I love the self-awareness she has gained through these experiences and, therefore, happiness through her efforts to actively improve upon what is going on around her--no matter the results. Definitely worth reading!!
Susan Bump has penned a delightful and fascinating book about her life as a horse trainer. Even for those of us reading the book without much background in the subject, it is written to keep us turning the pages into the night! This was -- and I guess still is -- a wild ride indeed, taken by a girl who began life under very difficult circumstances. She learned along the way, not only to stand up for herself but to also stand up for the animals she loves. This is a story of an amazing transition, from scared little girl to confused and abused young woman, to a strong woman who is now able to share it all with us.
My Wild Ride will take you on a ride of many emotions. Susan Bump's brutal honesty about her life's journey will be refreshing and, at times, astounding. The challenges and travails of life's journey without a positive parental upbringing are revealed while also demonstrating that the human spirit can overcome the negative and land on positive ground. Read this book for an adventure about the human experience.
I have known Susan, or thought I had, since our early twenties. Her love, respect, and devotion to her animals was always of admiration. To learn she has finally come to a place in her life where anything less than that for herself is unacceptable is moving! What I didn't know about my friend was her lack of self-esteem. She hid it well. 'My Wild Ride' is a must read for those who are warmed by feel-good animal stories, who are curious about life at the track, who are challenged by a past that holds them back from experiencing their own self-worth! I laughed, I cried, and found a new respect for the life I live having seen life through the authors eyes.
I don't know Susan and have never met her, but her book about her life captured me and I couldn't put it down after I started reading. She describes the people in her life, especially from the racing business with brutal honesty and I found many similarities to my own experiences. Her unconditional love and understanding for animals kept her moving on while experiencing abuse through people. While reading her story, at times I wanted to scream and give her some of my confidence then realizig that, writing such a detailed book about her life and emotions, she must have found her way! Great read and much to learn for everyone!

An inspiring life long path of a woman whose love of horses (and a menagerie of other pets) helped her to overcome a difficult and traumatic childhood. Susan's novel clearly demonstrates that you must love yourself before you can share your life with anyone else. Raising one's self esteem is the only true way to prevent people from repeatedly attempting to take advantage of you.
Her propensity to take in stray and abandoned animals was matched only by her tendency to take on relationships with abusive and shallow men! But, what a turn around she made! Great reading!
